Our Policies

Sexual Harassment:

Sexual advances or comments made before or during the massage towards your therapist will terminate your session immediately with full payment due, you will be banned from making further appointments and you will be served with a termination of service letter to your home address.

If you are from the big city, we don't do "happy endings" or "outcalls" here--Go back where you came from. If you are just a local pervert, who expects more than a massage, expect to be pepper-sprayed instead and then we will call 911.

Booking Policy:

You must book your appointment with a valid credit card #, gift certificate #, or pre-pay cash. No exceptions.

Cancellation/Reschedule Policy:

Cancellations and reschedules that are made less than 24-hours in advance may be charged a $20.00 fee or up to 100% of the cost of the massage if the appointment cannot be filled. This is up to the discretion of the individual therapist. Clients who are late for their appointment will receive only the remainder of their appointment time.

Please bathe, scrub your back and wash your hair the morning of your appointment and after you work out. It is not ok to "save your shower for after your massage". Your skin produces new cells, replacing itself every thirty days. You know those dust bunnies around your house? Those are 90% dead skin cells. If you don't scrub frequently, during a massage, those layers of dead skin cells and old sweat on your back will pill up like an old fuzzy sweater. Ew. We reserve the right to refuse the appointment, with full payment due, if you don't.

Appointment Times:

We do not split up appointments. Two half hours take two sets of sheets, twice the lotion, and almost double the time that a one hour massage takes. It will make the next client's appointment start late, the therapist may miss their break or be unable to leave on time, and will cause everyone involved to rush.

Gift Certificates (GCs):

GCs are good for one year--please plan ahead to make your appt. We will not extend our hours or reschedule other clients in order to get you in before your GC expires. You need the GC # to make your appointment, it must be present for payment after, and GCs that have expired cannot be redeemed.

We no longer keep track of who purchased paper GCs or who they were purchased for. We don't re-isse lost paper GCs. If the GC was purchased online, we can look it up and re-send the #, but only to the person who purchased it.

No cash refunds will be given for GCs. If however, you don't want to use your GC, we can re-issue it so that you may re-gift it. Please call the office--there is a $3 fee, and the original expiration date will apply.

GCs cannot be split by time, only by dollar amount. For instance, you cannot use a one-hour GC for two half-hour sessions. You can however, use your one-hour GC towards shorter sessions--for example, a 30-min appt can be paid for with a 60-min GC, with a remainder to be used later.

Under 18?

If you are under 18, your parent must come in with you to sign their consent. We will not accept text messages, phone calls or handwritten notes. However, if your parent is a regular client of Bodyology, we can make exceptions to this rule--ask the therapist. If the parent is making an appointment for a child under driving age, the parent must stay in the reception area, or in the room with that child.

If you have small children and are getting a massage, please arrange for child care at another location. We do not allow children under the age of twelve to wait in the reception area, or to be present in the massage room during the appointment. This will allow you, as well as other customers, to relax and enjoy the massage.

Cell Phones:

Please turn off or mute your cell phone or leave it in the car. If you are in the reception area and choose to use your phone, speak quietly or exit the building to take the call. Please be considerate of our other clients.

What To Expect During a Massage

Where Will My Massage Happen?

The massage session will take place in a warm, quiet, comfortable room. Soft music is played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort, and you will be covered by sheets and blankets, with bolsters behind your knees, neck and ankles as appropriate.

Must I Be Completely Undressed?

Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed, beneath the sheet. You will be properly draped with the sheet during the session (proper draping is required by Wisconsin law). HOWEVER, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort under the sheet. You are more than welcome to leave your bra and underwear on. You will have privacy to get ready and get on the massage table before the massage begins.

Will I Be Covered?

You will always be properly draped with the sheet at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

Will All of My Body Be Massaged?

You and the therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female), or your stomach.

What Oils or Lotions Are Used?

We use only Sacred Earth lotions, creams and/or oils. Sacred Earth produces the best organic, vegan and non-allergenic products available. These will be used to permit your muscles to be worked on comfortably. You may request lotion or cream only, if you have plans after your massage and you don't want to feel/look oily. Generally, the hair at the back of your neck will look a little oily. A little bit of baby/talcum powder in the hair will hide the oil if you need to go somewhere afterwards.

What Will the Massage Feel Like?

It depends on the techniques used. In a general Swedish/American Relaxation massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and ease exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be adjusted to relax and relieve specific areas of muscular tension. You should communicate to your therapist immediately if you feel any discomfort, so that the pressure can be change, or a different approach may be taken. Massage is most effective when you are relaxed, and the pressure is not little or too much.

What Should I Do During My Massage?

Just make yourself comfortable. The therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Greater benefits can be received during a massage if you concentrate on relaxing. Some of the stretches and movements used have better outcomes if they are passive (without your assistance). You set the level of conversation during the massage. You needn't feel obligated to make conversation, but you can if you want. If your therapist is talking too much, feel free to request silence!

Massage Beginners:

We recommend a one hour Swedish/American Relaxation Massage for the first time. This way you can try the whole massage and find out what you like or don't like.

Buying a Gift Certificate and uncertain what to pick?

Eighty percent of our massage clients get a Swedish/American Relaxation massage. This is a good bet if you don't know which one to pick. Whatever you choose, your recipient can always use that dollar amount towards whatever they like.

Swedish/American Relaxation

This is a treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic massage techniques are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. A combination of long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping are used.

Deep Tissue

This type of massage is administered to affect the sublayer of musculature and fascia. It requires more advanced training and a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep tissue, otherwise tight surface muscles prevent deeper musculature from being reached. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation, and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It does generally cause some discomfort during the process and may cause soreness and tenderness the following day. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques and is not used exclusively during the session. This is not recommended for massage "beginners".

Hot Stone

Heated stones of all shapes and sizes and varying temperatures, are used during this massage to elicit physical healing, and mental relaxation. Warm stones encourage the cleansing of blood and lymph and provide soothing heat for deep tissue work. Some stones will be placed in varying positions on the body for energy balancing or may be used for specific trigger-point work. Extremely relaxing! If you like a hot bath or sauna, you may like this type of massage. It will get rid of that bone-deep cold that no one can seem to get rid of during Wisconsin winters.

Special propping techniques, a massage table (with a removeable belly insert) or special pillows (our Cozy Cuddler) are used to allow the pregnant mother to comfortably lay on the table, and a relaxing massage is given to ease discomforts. Expectant mothers can choose a relaxation or deep tissue, or a mixture of both.

Chair Massage (not available in the office)

Also called on-site and seated massage, chair massage includes techniques that provide fully-clothed seated massage to clients, generally in a corporate, business, or other setting. Individual session times range from 5-20 minutes and typically cost $1 per minute. The increased cost versus traditional massage in an office setting covers travel and set-up time. Chair massages can be done at health fairs, wedding receptions, and corporate barbeques, just to mention a few scenarios. It can also be a great idea to reward your employees on a Friday afternoon, or give them a pick-me-up in the middle of the week.
